There is a reason that Markus Schulz, over four years ago, became one of my favorite DJs and electronic dance music producers— joining the ranks of Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, Blank & Jones, Paul Oakenfold, The Thrillseekers, Above & Beyond, ATB and Johan Gielen: He is simply out of control live. All too often, sets can avoid momentum, offering no gradual ascent to climax or never transporting you to that euphorically epic, state of trance. But Schulz is the master of epic Trance. On Friday, May 7th, 2010 he will set New York on fire at Pacha for a special Made Event production. He surely won’t disappoint.
Originally from Eschwege, central Germany, Schulz has been in the US since the ‘80s. Early on in the ‘90s he collaborated under legendary Pete Tong’s label. Shortly thereafter his work was picked up by Eve Records for the UK and the rest is history. Schulz has remixed all the big players, from Depeche Mode, Oceanlab, Ferry Corsten, Cosmic Gate, Madonna, Everything But The Girl, Backstreet Boys, and Jewel; his remixes of “Intuition” and “Stand” nabbed him the #1 spot on the coveted Billboard Club Chart in 2003. Schulz’s distinctive take on epic trance and progressive electronic dance have garnered him millions of fans worldwide and in 2008, he was voted Best American DJ at the International Dance Music Awards. In October 2009, DJ Magazine named Schulz #8 in its Top 100 DJ Poll.
His radio program, Global DJ Broadcast, now in its fifth year, is currently played on 50 stations worldwide. He has headlined at Trance Energy (an amazing set which I witnessed), Nature One, Dance Valley, Creamfields, Future Music Festival, Global Gathering, and at last year’s first Electric Zoo. His label, Coldharbour Recordings, enables Schulz to release his own material, as well as work with some of progressive dance music’s most sought-after producers. Now on the threshold of its 100th release, “Dark Heart Waiting”, Coldharbour is definitely an industry heavy-hitter.
Our top tracks for Schulz include: “You Won’t See Me Cry (Deepsky Remix)”, “Daydream vs. Andy Moor,” “Let It Go” (from Progression), “The New World” (from Ultra Trance ‘09), and OceanLab’s “Satellite.” Better yet, at his live sets, Schulz always provides fans with sensation new and original material.
Schulz is slated to release Do You Dream, the follow up to his 2007 acclaimed artist album Progression. Do You Dream should release, June 12 on Armada Music.
Bringing Schulz back to NYC, for his own set, is one of the smartest moves by Made Event this year!
