It is a good thing Matt Darey dropped his band in University and switched to electronic music when you consider his Nocturnal podcast plays on 116 FM stations worldwide. Now a seasoned veteran, he has just released his 227th eposide (not including the 81 Nocturnal sunshine podcasts he has produced). His DJ set has now become so tight, that before you know it, the night is gone and you are nocturnal as well.

The number of people at Cielo was perfect. Enough room to dance, but not too few to induce agoraphobia (the fear of open spaces). Amongst the crowd where some real hardcore Darey fans. Instead of descending onto the main dance floor, they bounced with hands reaching up to Darey transfixed on his moves. Their dedication was eventually rewarded as Darey began handing out Nocturnal CD’s. Cielo is the perfect place to get close to your favourite DJ’s – a rare opportunity in comparison to the stages at mega clubs.

The intimate venue matched the Nocturnal vibe; a variance of tracks and styles but melded together in one flowing mix. The chilled out ambience mixed with the bouncing base found on the Nocturnal series, transferred to a live set perfectly. Vocal tracks interspersed throughout Darey’s set gives you that warm feeling that makes you want to hug your neighbour – what other style of music can do that?

See some pics below, and then watch the videos underneath.

Take a look at the videos below, to listen to some of the killer tracks from the night, and then read our interview with him.

Here is one of those vocal tracks I mentioned, listen out for the drop as he screams ‘come on, here we fucking go!’:
