Supernova (Calvin Harris remix)
Kanye West & Mr Hudson
Kicking off with something a little more commercial this week. I loved the original pop edit of this tune, there’s something about Hudson’s voice and vo-coders that make me very happy! Man of the moment, Calvin Harris, has managed to hold onto the original vibe with his remix, leaving us with an up-beat commercial tune, tickled by a lovely raspy bass-line.

Losing My Mind (David Tort remix)
Cevin Fisher & Paul Harris
Here’s a strange one… This song is very hard to get into, but it’s hitting a lot of DJ charts worldwide, so it’s well worth a few listens. Lyrics about clubbing in a ‘voice-over’ voice, and a bass-line that reminds me of Beni Bennassi’s ‘San Fransisco Dreaming’, gives the tune a chilled out trance vibe, but wait for the drop and the tune takes a whole new direction and gives you a much clearer understanding of the beginning of the song! Confusing, but very, very clever.

Kiss Me (Sergio Mauri, Raf Marchesini & Karim Razak mix)
Andrea Paci ft. Andrea Love
If the original had been around in 2004, it would have been a stomper… but it wasn’t, which is why I’ve picked this remix to talk about. Andrea Love’s vocals are big and diva-esque, and the classic house piano riff takes me back to some very happy clubbing memories from the mid naughties. ‘Kiss Me’ will go down a real treat in any club that’s sticking with the big funky uplifting vibe, and with the electro twist from the remixers, it will probably sit a treat on some of the harder dance-floors too.

I’m Not Alone (Remaniax remix)
Calvin Harris
Here’s one for your peak time! We all know that Calvin Harris is hugely popular at the moment, which is why it’s so nice to see him putting out material that is both publicly viable AND well up to clubbing standards. ‘I’m Not Alone’ has a real belter of a break-down and build, and the big sweeping synths take you higher with each chord. I can really see this being chucked around the Ibiza closing parties by the big boys.

I Want You (Funkerman remix)
Ida Corr, Christian Von Staffeldt
So, here’s Ida Corr’s first outing that I’ve noticed since ‘Let Me Think About It’ with Fedde Le Grand. She’s just released a full album, and this has been chosen as the first single. There’s a great vibe to this track, an almost urban take on a traditional house groove, and a really original sound for the bass-line. The vocals remind me of another track if I’m honest, but they’re beautifully recorded and produced, and put a great energy on top of a very funky track!
