DJ lil Alex’s Top 5 House Tracks – 27th Sept 2009

Posted on 27 September 2009

01
Stop 2009
Consoul Trainin ft Sam Brown

This is great stuff. A chunky, funky remix of a classic track that sticks hard and fast to its genre. This is big house, designed for the largest of crowds, in the best of moods. It’s happy and exciting, it’s fresh without breaking any boundaries, but most importantly, there’re bits where you can sing along, and bits where you can dance along. What more could you ask for?

02

Everyone’s At It (Eddie Kidd & Nathan C remix)
Lily Allen

“Dive For Cover”! This tune is NASTY! Such a simple intro, some beautiful fluffy piano, and the lovely Lily singing about drug habits. But be warned, things are not as they seem! I’ll be honest and tell you that I’ve not heard anything else by the remixers (Eddie Kidd & Nathan C), but they must be some messed up kids. Nuff said. **WARNING; watch your volumes in residential areas!**

03
Earth Song (DJ Sammy remix)
D.O.N.S ft. Michael Jackson

Although this is my second Michael Jackson review in the last 5 weeks, I must inform you, I’m not some obsessive fan, and I never was. However, the death of the legend obviously drove those whose lives he touched to re-work some of his classics. This was inevitable, and the quality of the subsequent releases reach both ends of the scale. However, I hope you’ll agree that this remix of ‘Earth Song’ is not just jumping on the bandwagon. It’s a beautifully worked track, and I can promise you, there will be some fantastic club re-works of this. But for now, here’s the pretty cool pop edit and a pretty cool video.

04
Sound Of Violence (Filthy Rich Remix)
Dennis De Laat

We’re certainly heading towards the end of the Summer, there’s no denying that, but with these kinds of sound around, I feel I might just be able to dance through the cold times! This deep track from Dennis De Laat has been beautifully and darkly twisted by DJ Filthy Rich. It’s a late night journey with real direction, and could easily be a defining moment on any big dance-floor. Probably not one for the smaller dance-floors as it’s got an epic feeling about it that just needs space and height.

05
Jump (Sunfreaks Extended remix)
Flo Rida ft Nelly Furtado

Well, this is probably about as “pop” as I go, but check out the track and you’ll understand why. There are very few rappers that I appreciate purely on the basis of skill, but Flo Rida has really made an impression with this song. Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t listen to what he’s saying, I’ve never been a ‘lyrics’ kind of person. I like the tone of his voice, the rhythms he creates with his words and the notes he chooses to hit. For me, this is what makes rap exciting (Dizzee / Mr Mathers for example). I haven’t heard much from Sunfreaks since ‘Counting Down The Days’ with Andrea Britton, but what they’ve done to this track really is lovely, and whether you approve of the tune or not, I’ve dropped it on gay and straight dance-floors and it hasn’t let me down yet!
