DJ lil Alex’s Top 5 House Tracks – 7th Oct 2009

Posted on 07 October 2009

DJ lil Alex is a fast rising DJ (he was just nomiated the best DJ in the South of the UK at the Corona Movida International DJ Competition), but still finds the time to deliver us the top five tracks of the moment.

01
Flash 2.9 (Dave Darell remix)
HI:FI vs. Dave Darell

I’ve got to be honest, there’s very few things I enjoy more than a funny old tune mashed up into a nice new electro tune. However, one of those things that I enjoy more is when the outcome is a stomper! The break-down in ‘Flash 2.9′ will bring a smile to the face of every punter, and the drop will make them scream. It really is that good!

02
Bounce (original mix)
Wolfgang Gartner

Wolfgang Gartner is making big waves in the world of electro at the moment. I’ve spotted a fair few releases from him in the past year (including a great mix of Beethovens 5th), and have seen that he’ll be remixing some big names in the near future. He’s definitely one to watch if you like you electro nasty, and let’s be honest, how could you not? ‘Bounce’ is one of his earlier releases, but it’s  as tough as anything that he’s made since, and has a fantastic journey to it. Make sure to listen from start to finish for full effect!

03
Trapped (Danny Verde remix)
Pagano & Wayne G ft Peyton

The original version of ‘Trapped’ was one of the first few vinyl I ever owned (a gift from the legendary Richard Jones), and the main melody always used to grab me. It’s just a beautiful tune, and timeless, as proved by this remix. It’s got a bit of a Pitron / Sanna feel to it to be honest, it reminds me a little of their remix of ‘Sweet Dreams, Beyoncé. I reckon this track will be heard in the more serious late-night establishments across the world.

04
One More Time (Sébastien Léger bootleg)
Daft Punk

ONE FOR THE DJ’s!

This fabulous remix of ‘One More Time’ first came to my attention on a blog site late last year. It was just a youtube link to a video of Sébastien Léger playing it live in a club. It immediately shone through as a ‘must have’ tune, but I couldn’t find it anywhere! The cheeky DJ was obviously keeping it to himself, and any other DJ can probably understand why! The link I’ve included is the original youtube video of him performing, LIVE at Anzu Club (I’m sure you can find the track link yourself)! As I said at the top, this is really one for the DJ’s, I reckon it might be a little too close to the original for home listening! “Hold out for that drop!!”

05
She Wolf (Saul Ruiz club mix)

Shakira

Now I know I’m not really supposed to like Shakira, so this i yet another knock to my rapidly diminishing ‘street cred’. But, before you jump to any conclusions, give the Saul Ruiz mix a little listen. It’s certainly the best option when confronted by the inevitable; a request! We all have to deal with it, no matter what club or what time of the day it is, someone will ask you to play something from the top 10 chart hits. My advice to you is simple; find at least one good remix of whatever is in the chart, and play it when they ask. You’ll gain fans this way, and  they’ll also put up with you playing your choice of music in-between!
