When the Santos Party House website claimed Dance.here.Too is to bring dance music to the city with ‘no nonsense, no door drama, no fuss’, I got excited. I had long craved a break from being treated like cattle by door staff, only to realise that once inside you are in fact packed like cattle. Well, you won’t get that at Santos. You stroll straight through the doors into a great open space, where the crush of other dance clubs is completely avoided. This meant that even before Behrouz came on last Saturday, the crowd were bouncing to warm-up DJ Jason Bowen. I think I even spottted a few strangers hugging – standard fair after 3, but before 1am is quite the achievement.

However, the switch to Behrouz was clear. A heavy pumping 4 x 4 beat rippled out into the crowd (showing off the immense sound system). At this point I ventured up to the stage to take some shots. Now don’t call me naive (although I am), I had expected a somewhat hairy Middle Eastern prince – see the promo shot here. So when I saw the clean shaven DJ, I thought ‘wow who is this guy? He is amazing!’. However, it was in fact Behrouz – albeit different to the promo image. Hilarious. Finally someone is taking a jab at those seductive DJ poses you see with all the promos (ha!!).

So that is Behrouz, light-hearted but extremely talented. His sound was varied like many DJ’s we see these days, driving from 4×4 to progressive, from hard to softer and back again. Everyone was extremely impressed with his set, and the crowd did not stop raving right through to 4.30. Check out the nightclubcity forums to hear from a few satisfied clubbers.
