After some investigating I found out who they were and realised that I have come across this band name before; My Tiger My Timing played the John Peel stage at Glastonbury festival earlier this year after making it to the finals of the Emerging Talent competition. They are a London based band of 5 and have previously released 3 singles, with their 4th single Written in Red due for release in November and talks of a debut album in early 2012.

Written in Red is an instantly likeable track, it’s bright, poppy & fun. The catchy lyrics and uplifting melody follow you around for hours after you hear it, making it impossible to take life too seriously. I am particularly fond of bands with female vocalists and Anna Vincent has one of those delightfully soft voices that effortlessly serenades your ears as you tap along to the beat. This song isn’t really lacking anything. It’s retro, edgy and addictive. My Tiger My Timing have definitely found themselves a new fan. The single is due for release on November 14th and UK tour dates are below.

 Beginning in 1992, The Mercury Music prize honours celebrates music by British or Irish artists, assessed soley on one album.  Despite being the bookmakers’ favourite, the record beat of tough competition from the likes of Adele, Tinie Tempah, and Elbow to take home the £20,000 prize. PJ Harvery previously won the award in 2001, but was unable to collect the award in person due to being stranded in Washington after 9/11.

“Let England Shake” is PJ’s eight album, which thematically discusses England in conflict, both modern day and historically.

“Once in a while an album comes your way that blows the boundaries of music sky high… With every harmony, every melody and every word, you feel it.” These are the words that Sander van Doorn employs to introduce his soon-to-be-released album Eleve11.

It’s an impressive effort that remains true to the van Doorn formula: dynamic melodic vocal chants; slow-to-climax buildups; and techno infused with euphoric rhythms. While Eleve11 is with out a doubt a trance recording, there is a healthy dose of genre-crossing. In fact, there is the feeling of departure—a testing of new turf for the artist. We loved how Dusk ‘till Doorn blended tribal with street beat and symphonic clashed with euphoric house. There is still some of that on Eleve11. Whether this is done to great effect, we’ll let you be the decider there… but it’s safe to say that fans of the Dutchman will find this album irresistible as well.

Eleve11 kicks off with what will term a dazed dream sequence; a starry mix of haunting keyboard, synths, and ’80s rock drums. This interlude segues into the groovy ballads of Carol Lee on “Love Is Darkness,” the hit that catapulted van Doorn up the ladder. With this mix he addictively samples electro-pop, without treading into commercial waters.

He brings us back to his progressive home base with a real dance floor winner, “Rolling the Dice” – Sidney Samson featuring Nadia Ali (album version), is debatably his most solid track. It’s pure with Balearic through and through. We maybe biased, but anything boasting Ali’s vocals and we’re hooked. This is also a song with great lyrics that give it an edge and emotional sharpness… no dull blade by any chance! It’s a track we have to hear live at Electric Zoo 2011.

“Timezone,” featuring Frederick is also surely a festival anthem that delivers exhilarating symphonic beat merged with a seemingly haunting Gregorian background that is barely detectable.

Another track soon after, relies on tribal drumming, which towards the end, van Doorn appears to pushing the trance max of 150 bpm—with decent results.

The last track that had us grooving with approval was Sia’s “Drink to get Drunk” –a much needed—long awaited— revamp here.

Those are just the highlights of the disc—the bare bones if you will… If it’s a profusion of hook and groove you demand—that’s what you’ll get.

Perhaps a “definitive moment” has arrived in dance music…

Sander van Doorn takes the Main Stage at the 2011 Electric Zoo festival this Labor Day weekend, September 3, 2.50pm – 4.20pm.

Eleve11 will be released under Doorn Records and in the US, with Ultra Records, 19 September.

The Australian moody-pop quartet The Jezabels has been all over the world and back. Upon completing their European tour in September, the four will be returning to the U.S. and Canada in November to tour with the Canadian indie rock band Hey Rosetta! See below for dates.

After releasing a trilogy of EPs, the band is currently putting the finishing touches on their debut LP Prisoner. A preview of the album can be found in their newest track “Eternal Summer” available for download and sharing above.

CD1 begins with, as Saiz writes, ‘Taped memories, voice notes, still moments, through an old radio in a ghostly artificial paradise,’ setting the tone for the record. The next track, ‘Tyrane’, offers a chilled disco vibe, with voices continuing from the intro creating a dream-like effect. ’1981′ kicks in with a bounding bass line and techno piano that makes you feel like you are in a 1980′s movie – as the sound switches from left to right, you feel like your in the middle of a Tron disc battle. That is the power of Henry Saiz’s mixing, the ability to draw you into your own imagination. 

‘Honey Wine’ picks up the pace, driving slightly harder. But the true masterpiece kicks in during ’Onice and Lady in the Mirror’, as you really begin to appreciate the intricate layering of Saiz’s work - ghostly voices riding over bouncing tech melodies, driving beats and even distant wind pipes. 

The second CD picks up the pace and goes into a deeper tech vibe. ‘Elle’ is of particular note, with the addition of middle eastern chanting to a powerful effect. Demonstrating his versatility comes ‘Trip of the Dolphin’, with echoy violin over vibrating synth bass. ‘Thank you come again’ is another highlight, offering a dub style bouncing bass, underneath eerie soundbites from before – a perfect intro to ‘If this World were Dub’ up next. the highlight of the second CD for me is ‘Come wander with me’, due to its great reverb-heavy vocals and bouncing melody.

Overall, Balance 019 has the unique ability to evoke a deep atmosphere while also remaining light and bouncy throughout. Get your copy on itunes and see full track listing below:
