Canadian indie-rock band Metric will be in New York this week when they play a free (yes, free!!) gig in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. This is their first show in New York since they played Terminal 5 back in May – and what an experience that was.
I arrived to a fairly serene crowd but there was [...]

On one of the muggiest days in one of the muggiest summers in recent memory, Loose Limbs, Best Coast and Free Energy played a free show at Pier 17 at South Street Seaport in Lower Manhattan on July 23. After a thumping, short set by Loose Limbs, LA’s Best Coast took the stage in the [...]

When I got invited to the Webster Hall studio to see Brooklyn indie Band The Drums perform live for MTV.com I was excited, The Drums are a great band with fun, catchy music that make you think of a hot summers day. The Studio is also a great venue, dark and [...]

Who turned up the heat in New York City? 100?F? It’s pretty hot around here at the moment, but if that isn’t quite hot enough for you, you may want to visit the legendary MoMA PS1 Warm Up music series. The contemporary art centre is based in [...]

Passion Pit are in town this week playing two shows, both of which are now sold out which is hardly surprising given the growing success of this Massachusetts based 5. While it is unfortunate that I am unable to attend either of these two shows, I was lucky enough to see them live in New [...]

One night after playing a sold-out show at the giant, out-of-the-way monstrosity of a venue, Terminal 5 (or “The Thunderdome” as lead singer A.C. Newman put it), the New Pornographers played a sold-out show at the smaller, equally out-of-the-way venue the Bell House on June 20. And befitting the smaller venue, the show was more [...]

This party overpowered you with stimulus that appealed to all senses, you could walk around a corner and get hit with something completely unexpected but at the same time you wouldn’t be surprised. This party for me epitomised New York City – anything is possible, it’s a place where all you want to do is keep on dancing and never go home.

Band of Horses opened the summer concert series at Williamsburg Waterfront on June 20th, in front of a sold-out crowd in Brooklyn. Despite the many barriers to entry – which included a maddeningly large number of separate lines for ticket checks, ID checks, drink tickets, and actual drinks that could only be bought with said [...]

Seattle band BOAT, in New York City for three days, were kind enough to stop by the Music Street Team’s apartment studio (not studio apartment) in lovely downtown Brooklyn, to inaugurate themst.com’s new “Rock the House, Not the Neighbors” apartment series. The band, perhaps sated by bagels and Diet Coke, stayed long enough to play [...]

The best part about going to a pop music festival is that, for the most part, pop is possibly the least pretentious genre of music. Other than the occasional singer who wears sunglasses inside, at night (I’m looking at you, My Teenage Stride), there’s very little posturing in pop rock. Folks just wanna bob their [...]
